Luckily Rex’s Speed Shop is on the case. It seems the pulser coil can fail and that prevents the spark happening, so the guys at Rex’s Speed Shop have developed a magneto conversion – pictured – that allows the 1973-76 DT, MX, IT and YZ 250, 360 and 400cc models with electronic ignition to run even when the pulser coil has failed.
The kit includes a back plate, fitting kit and new electronic magneto control unit which replaces the old CDi unit. Not only does this system allow these bikes to run ‘pulserless’ but it also gives noticeably more power from the mid range.
