Remembering dear old James…

If we could turn back time to our teenage years, would we? Mike Hornegold gave it a try!

I wonder if you would like to include my account of an old boy’s dream, or is it a mere folly? As, no doubt, many of you of a certain age will identify with my experience!

In 1957 I was a wet-behind-the-ears, motorcycle-mad teenager, having acquired a 250cc James Commodore from a work colleague of my father.

My father had been a motorcyclist, it being the only means of affordable motorised transport available before the Second World War, and he then did service as a dispatch rider, so this no doubt fired my interest in powered two-wheelers.

In order to relive my youth, I had a hankering to recreate the one and only photo with me and my James – perhaps a little crazy, but you know what they say about old fools (Picture 1).
