Dating back to 1916, the event is the second oldest motorsport event in the USA behind the Indianapolis 500, and this year marks the 92nd running of what has often been billed as the world’s most famous and demanding hill climb.
Only two bikes have ever broken the 10-minute barrier on the infamous gradient, both in 2012. Riding a Ducati, Carlin Dunne became the Peak record-holder at 9min 52.819 sec, and this was followed by Greg Tracy’s 9min 58.262 sec, also on a Duke.

Guy will be entering the UTV/Exhibition Division on a 2014 Martek custom bike that he’s building for himself.
The race is over a 12.42-mile course with 156 turns, starting at 9390ft and finishing at the 14,115ft summit of America’s Mountain.
As riders head for the top, the thin air slows reflexes, saps muscle strength and robs engines of 30% of their power, so competitors and bikes alike must be in top shape to finish, let alone win!
• Bikes on show at Tewkesbury Classic Vehicle Festival
More than 150 bikes, not to mention more than 400 classic cars and 120 trade stalls selling everything from gaskets to garters, will make the Tewkesbury Classic Vehicle Festival, taking place between 11am and 5pm on August 17, an event to remember.
Entry is free for classic vehicles and their drivers/riders who can just turn up on the day, and there will be live period music by the Heywood Sisters, refreshments, a barbecue, bar, auto and bike jumble, craft market and more.
Admission costs just £5, with under-12s free, and all proceeds will go to Rotary Club charities.
