Festival of 1000 Bikes


Once a year isn’t anywhere near as often as anyone should be paying a visit to Leicestershire’s ‘friendly circuit’, but Dave Manning returned for his annual trip, to see this year’s VMCC showcase shindig…

Despite the fact that the event has been running for a large number of years, last year had been my very first time at the Festival of 1000 Bikes, and I was both impressed by the event, and a little frustrated.

John Cooper sweeps around the outside of Giacomo Agostini on the entrance to Gerards. And no, I never thought that I would actually experience that!

The latter was only thanks to the fact that I spent just the Saturday at the event and thus missed out on seeing the vast array of race machinery taking to the track on the following day.

This year, I would make amends, although I did hamstring myself a little by confining myself to just one day again, although for 2019 I spent the Sunday at Mallory, thus missing out on many road-going bikes taking to the track, but giving me the opportunity to witness the aforementioned race machines being used in anger, many being ridden by some rather influential and inspirational racers.
