One New Year resolution worth making right now is to visit next year’s Isle of Man Festival of Motorcycling from Saturday, August 19 until Sunday, September 3. It’s celebration time! The Classic TT and Wemoto Festival of Jurby will reverberate to the sight and sound of the 500cc Gilera Four as it celebrates the great Bob McIntyre’s achievement of being the first man to lap the TT Mountain Course at over 100mph in 1957.

Amazingly, it’s 60 years since Bob did the TT ‘double’ by winning the 1957 Junior and Senior TT aboard his factory entered Gileras, setting a new lap record in the eight-lap Senior race of 101.12mph and beating the great John Surtees (MV Agusta) into second place.

The Isle of Man holds a unique position in the history of motorcycle road racing and, indeed, the history of the development of the motorcycle, and remaining largely untouched since 1911, the 37¾ miles of public roads have played host to some of the greatest motorcycle races and riders of
all time.

From Geoff Duke, Bob Mac and John Surtees challenging to be
the first to lap at over a ‘ton’, to
Mike Hailwood’s epic duels with Giacomo Agostini and Phil Read and then the eras of Mick Grant, Joey Dunlop and a host of other stars, the TT simply echoes with such memories – so what better place could there be to turn back the clock to the golden age of motorcycling than the Isle of Man?
