Those who enjoyed a ride-out to the Crich Tramway Village near Matlock, Derbyshire, over Easter found themselves in a realistic wartime situation with identity card checks, air-raid warnings and the sounds of low-flying aircraft as the museum staged its WWII/1940s Era Weekend.
As vintage trams rumbled by, historic road and military vehicles both static and on the move added to the authentic atmosphere, while visitors had to watch out for the antics of black-market spivs and off-duty personnel, especially around the Red Lion public house!
Children could take part in a ‘boot camp’ under the keen gaze of Sgt Major Marmite, so named because they either loved him or hated him, and anyone wearing 1940s or wartime costume benefited from reduced admission prices.

The next big event for motorcyclists at the picturesque Tramway Village will be the Classic Motorcycle Day on Sunday, July 1, organised in conjunction with the Vincent Owners’ Club.
