Unnamed Guzzi was a Cardellino

In the ‘Lightweights with attitude’ feature about Italian motorcycles in last month’s OBM, the small but undescribed Moto Guzzi is a 73cc Cardellino (goldfinch), and as members of the Moto Guzzi Club of Great Britain we own such a machine.

The little Guzzi is thought to have spent some part of its life in an Italian museum.

Most Guzzis were named after birds, and we bought our example fresh from Milan, where we understand it spent much of its time in a museum (hence the good original condition) at Stafford two years ago.

It is now legal here and used on the road occasionally. Our example is a 1958 two-stroke with three speeds.

The example in your picture has the optional dual seat and speedo, and there was an earlier 65cc version.
