TSunbeam Club’s Pioneer Run sees over 300 centenarian machines taking part

The Sunbeam Motor Cycle Club has taken lots of trouble lately to point out that, despite its name, it is an all-inclusive club for all makes and models, and that anybody with an interest in motorcycles is welcome.

A look down the entry list of the 310 machines registered before the end of 1914 that took part in the 78th running of the prestigious Pioneer Run on Sunday, March 19, is testament to that fact, writes Ian Kerr.

A trench coat-clad participant gets down to it – or at least tries to – on a venerable Royal Enfield.

While some entrants are registered as members of other clubs such as the Vintage Motor Cycle Club, and a large contingent of overseas riders belong to their own organisations, the vast majority belong to the organising Sunbeam Club no matter what names are emblazoned on the tanks of their machines.

Unique tome
