Sunshine, smiles and poignant memories fill landmark Moidart Run


With photos from Eric Kitchen and Mike Wylie, John McCrink reports on the landmark 10th anniversary Gwen White Memorial Moidart Classic Motorcycle Run.

In dry and sunny weather, a large group of true enthusiasts descended on the Highland village of Kinlochleven in early May, to take part in the 10th Moidart Peninsula Classic Motorcycle Road Run.

This year’s landmark event was dedicated to Gwen White, who passed away peacefully in August last year.

Gwen was a great supporter of the Moidart Run and loved Kinlochleven and the Pre-’65 Scottish Trial.

Panther guru and Beamish Trophy Trial Secretary Tom Norman on his 1928 Panther 500.

She also took a great interest in and encouraged any women competitors.

Gwen was a motorcyclist from an early age and competed in the Scottish Six Day Trial on two occasions, as a 21-year-old in 1952 and again in 1957, successfully completing the event both times.

The guest of honour for this year’s run was 1960s trials ace Mick Dismore, a Scottish Six Days Trial veteran who was a fully supported works rider for James from 1959 until 1964.

Although now in his late-eighties, Mick is still a regular visitor to the Scottish, and likes nothing more than to soak up the atmosphere and run around on his vintage Honda
