Slippery Sam had nothing on this!

This amazing picture taken at Laxey, Isle of Man, shows how the ‘runaway tram’ problem on the Snaefell Mountain Railway has finally been solved – and don’t forget you saw it in Old Bike Mart first!

Motive power doesn’t come more beautiful than this as a horse waits patiently with its Douglas seafront tram at Laxey station. The photo was taken in anticipation of this year’s 125th anniversary of the Manx Electric Railway.

While the new trams are claimed to be 50% faster than the originals, TT racers have expressed concerns regarding the level crossing at The Bungalow, one of them declaring: “The tram lines can always make the bike slide in damp conditions, but this new development could make it really slippery!”

We’re kidding, of course! The picture was taken to illustrate the fact that a Douglas horse tram will
be pulled through Laxey’s delightful station later this year as part of the Manx Electric Railway’s 125th anniversary celebrations.
