Peter ‘Top Gear’ Gaunt

Harrogate Crematorium was packed to capacity as the motorcycling world paid tribute to Peter ‘Top Gear’ Gaunt on Thursday, March 7, writes Tim Britton.

The 82-year-old fought a brave battle against cancer but died on February 20. Known throughout the motorcycling world as a talented engineer, and one not bound by convention, Peter’s innovative way of thinking also appeared in the world of model aircraft.

On a 250cc BSA, Peter takes on the Pre-65 Scottish.

However, for us it is Peter’s motorcycling exploits that we remember and from his early days with support from Triumph, then works status with Royal Enfield, the legendary ‘Gaunt Preparation’ became a byword for excellence.
