Metisse Motorcycles – the next chapter

On Tuesday, November 27, at 11.30am, brothers Don and Derek Rickman, who effectively started the Rickman brand back in 1960, will be ‘cutting the sod’ at a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of a new combined 20,000 sq ft production and museum facility, that will not only house the production line, but also display important machinery from the company’s heritage.

Work is scheduled to start on the building early in the new year and the new facility will enable purchasers of new Metisse motorcycles to watch their machines being hand-built, while also enjoying a look around the museum, which will highlight the firm’s long and successful history both in competition and on the road.

The current company owner, Gerry Lisi, has spearheaded the new production facility, which will allow the licensed McQueen replicas to be built alongside the newly-developed 1000cc parallel twin engine that has been built from scratch and is housed in the MK5 Metisse frame.

There is something of an irony here, as ‘metisse’ translates as ‘mongrel’, yet the new Mk5 is very much a thoroughbred machine!
