Lighthouse family

Some time ago I read an article about the OK Supreme Lighthouse engine.

It had a vertical camshaft on which the cams were fixed at the top and therefore worked horizontally. But there was no detailed explanation of how the lateral motion of the cams was converted to vertical motion to operate the valves.

Here’s an example of the bike in question that shows exactly why it got the ‘Lighthouse’ moniker although, so far, we’re yet to find an image that illustrates how the cam operates – Ed.

It must have been an able design, finishing several TTs in the early 1930s.
