After unearthing these photos of his father Roy, taken in the very early 1950s, Mr M Pitson from Guildford, Surrey, has sent them to OBM for our readers to enjoy.
Back then, with petrol rationing still an issue, those who owned motorcycles or sidecar outfits rode them day in, day out, and spent every leisure moment possible out on the roads.
The first picture was taken at Mudiford, Devon, during the Sunbeam 200 in May 1950, and shows Roy (left) replenishing the tank of his Matchless outfit, watched by Nan Pitson. Also in the picture is a friend, Brian Cash.

During the Ridgeway Run in May 1952, Roy poses atop a lovely old road sign – no upper and lower case lettering back then – and note his riding gear.
Taken at a Dover Hay hill climb around 1953, the inset picture shows a not very happy Roy after discovering that a sidecar connecting bolt had broken.
