Ken Davis, an enthusiastic all-round motorcyclist and Barking and East Ham Motorcycle Club stalwart for many years, died in January at the age of 85.
He lived in London’s East Ham all his life, and notched up many thousands of miles on various road bikes as well as enjoying a long trials and scrambling career. For virtually a decade, he was also treasurer of the Auto-Cycle Union’s Eastern Centre, and his self-published autobiography came out in limited paperback form only last year.
His motorcycling career began in 1949 on a folding ex-military Corgi which had no kick-start, but despite its small dimensions, he rode to camp near Weston-super-Mare during his National Service. This was later replaced by a second Corgi that did have a kick-start and was supplied for £14 16s 3d on a part-exchange basis by manufacturer Brockhouse Engineering.
