Appointment only exemption!

A rare opportunity was given to members of local bike clubs in the Portsmouth area last month (September) when Ray Waller, co-owner of the Comet Classics Showroom, near Emsworth, Hampshire, invited them to view his current stock at a Sunday ‘open morning’.

Generally, viewing of the Comet collection is strictly by ‘appointment only’ and ever since the opening of the showroom, three years ago, that rule has applied.

A car park that excludes cars, with the minor exception of one classic pick-up truck, is always a good sight.

The Comet Classics Showroom had more than 30 bikes on sale, ranging from the 1930s up to the ’80s, including a wide range of marques, with such rarities as a six cylinder Honda and a Russian Ural flat twin, complete with sidecar.

More than 70 enthusiasts went along to the event, despite competition from the Goodwood Revival weekend just up the road in Chichester and another big motorcycle gathering in Brighton.

This was double the expected number of attendees, with many of the classic bikes in the parking lot replicating the quality of those on sale in the showroom.

Petrol heads were able to speak with the Comet staff, who are all motorbike owners and experts in both classic and modern machinery.
