170 riders enjoy sunny 25th Exmoor Run

Taunton Classic Motorcycle Club’s 25th annual Exmoor Run took place in fine weather on Sunday, August 13 after 170 motorcycles gathered at Sheppy’s Cider ready for the 9.30am start.

After the first stop in Exford for coffee, the riders continued across Exmoor, with the heather and gorse in full bloom, for lunch at Dulverton. The ride ended back at Sheppy’s, where tea and cake were served, followed by the raffle and presentations.

These bikes, including a nice-looking ‘bathtub’ Triumph, were among the 170 or so that took part in the 25th Exmoor Run.

Robert Quick’s 1977 Kawasaki Z1000 was judged to be the best bike, but John Shepherd’s 1954 BSA B31 and Martyn Owen’s Honda CB175 K6 were both highly commended.

The oldest bike was Anthony Kay’s 1925 BSA L25, and the furthest-travelled was
Mick Pedley’s Diesel Royal Enfield Bullet which had brought him 236 miles from Clitheroe in Lancashire.

The best Norton was Ian Gill’s 1950 International, and the Wells Classic Motorcycle Club took the award for the best-supported club.

The money raised will go to the local air ambulance and the Freewheelers, and the Taunton CMC thanks all concerned for the smooth running of the event. The date for next year’s Exmoor Run will soon be announced on the club’s website, http://tauntonclassicmc.weebly.com.
