We thought it might be cold… we were right!
We thought the weather might play fair… we were right!
We thought we might get three or four thousand enthusiasts…

out and about: Classic Bike Guide Winter Restoration Show

…but in that guess we were wrong, oh so very wrong, as a tad under 10,000 classic motorcycle enthusiasts flocked into Newark Showground in early January as our sister publication Classic Bike Guide launched its new show. Given the time of year and that the winter before, most of the country was buried under goodness knows how many feet of snow, it could have been so different.

Instead, it was brilliant and so good was the feedback on the weekend that this show will now be an annual fixture – which means you have a little over 11 months to prepare something for exhibiting at the next Classic Bike Guide Winter Restoration Show which will be held, near enough, on the same dates in 2013 as the first one was in 2012.

Inside the Mortons building, as zero hour approached, we knew all the elements were there for a successful show – a couple of guests with personality and the ability to hold a conversation, dozens of trade and autojumble stands, loads of clubs covering the entire spectrum of classic motorcycling and lots of private entries of the best restored bikes in the East Midlands.

But there’s always that nagging feeling of ‘have we done enough?’ It didn’t take long to find out that we had and the showground rapidly filled up with enthusiasts anxious to get at bargains in the autojumble, or pick up some stuff from trade stands, or seek out owners’ clubs for help in restoring or identifying or just the plain old reassurance that comes from meeting people who have experienced the same old problems.

So, have a glance at what the OBM camera was pointed at during the Classic Bike Guide Winter Show.

fantastic show that lacked in refreshment vans, time is always ebbing away even while stood in queues waiting for a good old cup of tea & given the season, winter, easier access to one would help all..? please put more refreshment vans in the next show, ta - only an observation that stood out to me...
