Music appreciation society

How nice it was for Old Bike Mart to remember the passing of the late, great Jet Harris – original bass guitarist of the Shadows, and the first person to play the electric bass guitar in this country.
Jet played on all the classic Shadows’ hits such as Apaché, FBI and Kontiki, just to name a few, also his own hits Diamonds and Scarlet O’Hara, Diamonds being top of the charts for six weeks.
Let’s hope the Rapiers play a special tribute to him at the Ton Up Day at Jack Hill’s Cafe in July, after all he played with this band quite frequently.
Jet Harris will always be in mine and others’ memories as the true great of guitarists, the backbone of the Shadows. Rock on Jet, Diamonds are forever.

Stuart, sorry about the delay in publishing your letter. The music of the 1960s – the early 60s – seemed to define the ending of a British era and before the hippie, flower power scene migrated here from the US. It is good that people like Jet Harris can still be heard on CD. TB
